Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman took the initiative to develop the first post-independence physiotherapy education system in the country. Physiotherapy education was also discontinued after his assassination in 1975. Since the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took over as the Prime Minister, the physiotherapy education system in the country has developed tremendously. Dhaka College of Physiotherapy (DCPT) is a growing institution of Bangladesh focused on creating better quality physiotherapists. Under the affiliation with the University of Dhaka, currently the institute is offering Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy Course where the students are learning form the best physiotherapy faculties of the country. Other than classroom teaching, the students are learning teamwork, collaboration, public speaking, presentation and leadership skills. শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান স্বাধীনতা-পরবর্তীকালে দেশে প্রথম ফিজিওথেরাপি শিক্ষাব্যবস্থা বিকাশের
উদ্যোগ নিয়েছিলেন। ১৯৭৫ সালে তাঁকে হত্যা করার পরে ফিজিওথেরাপি শিক্ষাব্যবস্থাও বন্ধ
করা হয়। জননেত্রী শেখ হাসিনা প্রধানমন্ত্রীর দায়িত্ব গ্রহণের পর হতে দেশে ফিজিওথেরাপি
শিক্ষাব্যবস্থা ব্যাপক বিকাশ লাভ করে।
এই সেক্টরে প্রথম ও একমাত্র কলেজ, ঢাকা কলেজ অব ফিজিওথেরাপি প্রতিষ্ঠা সরকারের উন্নয়নেরই ধারাবাহিকতা।আমি মনে করি, বঙ্গবন্ধু দেশের স্বাধীনতা নিশ্চিত করেছেন, আর জননেত্রী শেখ হাসিনা ফিজিওথেরাপিস্টদের যথাযথ সম্মান দিয়ে তাঁদের কর্মস্পৃহা বৃদ্ধিতে সহায়ক ভূমিকা রেখেছেন। মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী জননেত্রী শেখ হাসিনার নেতৃত্বাধীন সরকার দেশে শিক্ষা ও চিকিৎসা খাতের বিকাশে ব্যাপক উন্নয়ন ও অগ্রগতি সাধন করে চলেছেন।২০০৯ সালের পরে সরকারি পর্যায়ে মেডিকেল কলেজ, মেডিকেল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ও নার্সিং কলেজসহ চিকিৎসা শিক্ষার প্রসারে অনেক প্রতিষ্ঠান স্থাপন করা হয়েছে এবং সরকারের পাশাপাশি বেসরকারি পর্যায়ে মানসম্পন্ন চিকিৎসা শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান স্থাপনের উদ্যোগকে উৎসাহিত করা হয়েছে।
বাংলাদেশে ফিজিওথেরাপি চিকিৎসা ও শিক্ষাব্যবস্থা ক্রমেই সমৃদ্ধ হচ্ছে। ঢাকা কলেজ অব ফিজিওথেরাপি প্রতিষ্ঠার মাধ্যমে এই সমৃদ্ধীর মাত্রা আরও উজ্জ্বল হয়েছে। ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অধিভুক্ত এই প্রতিষ্ঠানের শিক্ষার্থীরা আগামীতে বিশ্বময় ফিজিওথেরাপি চিকিৎসা বিকাশে ভূমিকা রাখতে সক্ষম হবে বলে আমি বিশ্বাস করি। কলেজের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা জনাব সঞ্জীত চক্রবর্তীকে আমি অভিনন্দন জানাই, যে তিনি জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের স্বপ্ন বাস্তবায়নের ন্যায় একটি মহতি উদ্যোগকে সফল করেছেন। বঙ্গবন্ধুর জন্মশতবর্ষ এবং স্বাধীনতার সুবর্ণ জয়ন্তীর এই মাহেন্দ্রক্ষণে তিনি ঢাকা কলেজ অব ফিজিওথেরাপির কার্যক্রম আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে শুরু করতে যাচ্ছেন জেনে আমি আনন্দিত হয়েছি।
এই কলেজে ভর্তিচ্ছু শিক্ষার্থীদেরকে আমি আন্তরিক অভিনন্দন জানাই। ঢাকা কলেজ অব ফিজিওথেরাপি ও এই প্রতিষ্ঠানের শিক্ষক-শিক্ষার্থীদের পথচলা শুভ ও সুন্দর হোক এই প্রত্যাশা রইল।
