Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy Program (Professional)
The Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy (Professional) is a specialized undergraduate program aimed at preparing students for a professional career as physiotherapists. The duration of the course is 5-years (Four professional years and 1-year internship). After passing the fourth professional examination, a candidate will have to undergo internship for a period of twelve months.
Program Structure and Curriculum
The program is usually divided into core courses, elective courses, and clinical placements.
Year 1: Foundations
- Basic Sciences: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, and Kinesiology.
- Introduction to Physiotherapy: Basic concepts, history, and the role of physiotherapists in healthcare.
- Health Sciences: Basics of psychology, sociology, and public health.
Year 2: Applied Knowledge
- Pathology and Pharmacology: Understanding disease processes and medications.
- Biomechanics and Movement Sciences: Principles of movement and their applications.
- Therapeutic Exercise: Techniques for improving strength, flexibility, and endurance.
- Clinical Practice I: First exposure to real-world physiotherapy settings.
Year 3: Advanced Practices
- Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy: Assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions.
- Neurological Physiotherapy: Techniques for managing neurological disorders.
- Cardiovascular and Respiratory Physiotherapy: Focus on the treatment of cardiovascular and respiratory conditions.
- Clinical Practice II: Advanced clinical placements in various specialties.
Year 4: Professional Development
- Pediatrics and Geriatrics Physiotherapy: Specialized care for children and the elderly.
- Research Methods and Evidence-Based Practice: Understanding research and applying it to clinical practice.
- Management and Ethics in Physiotherapy: Professional conduct, ethics, and healthcare management.
- Final Clinical Placement: Extended hands-on training in a specialized area of interest.
- Capstone Project or Thesis: Research or project work that integrates learning from the program.
Eligibility for Application
The applicant must have passed the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (H.S.C) or the examination of equal status in science group with Biology, Physics and Chemistry without any grace mark and have to secure the grade point at least 7.0 (seven) in total. The candidate must have minimum grade point 3 (three) separately.
However, the criteria cannot be contradictory to the rules and practice of Faculty of Medicine of the University of Dhaka.
